What to expect at your first appointment(s):
If coming into the office, located on the three main campuses, there will be a comfortable, therapeutic environment where you can explore your current challenges. A counselor who is professionally trained and licensed will discuss with you the reasons you chose this service. Your counselor will be respectful and attentive, will listen and ask questions, and will address your concerns with you.
Should you participate via the HIPPA compliant telehealth option, please make note of the following:
You will need a computer, laptop, or smartphone with a microphone, speakers, and a camera for audio and/or videoconferencing. You will need to use a reliable and secure internet connection rather than public or free wifi. You will need to have space that ensures your privacy (you are alone in the room and others cannot hear you), has enough lighting, and is free from distractions and/or interruptions.
Individual counseling focuses on the exploration and resolution of the student’s personal problems or issues according to his/her needs.
Counseling the parties of a relationship (couples, family members, and friends) to help them better manage troublesome differences.
Session(s) with the psychiatrist for evaluation and determination regarding medication management.
If you are looking to have us come out to do either a presentation or an informational session please email Dr. Erika Correa, the center’s Assistant Director at email@example.com. Please make sure to include the following items in the email: Your name, credentials, and your program. Student Assistance Program Description: Individual, couples, and family counseling is provided for all full and part-time enrolled students. Professional counseling and psychiatric services are provided both in-office as well as via telehealth utilizing a HIPPA compliant video platform. Credit students are eligible for up to six (6) free counseling sessions per year. Service delivery utilizing a brief therapy model is used and each student is eligible for 6 counseling sessions per episode at no cost. Students may also see the psychiatrist for psychiatric assessment and short-term treatment, also at no cost. HSCS is on various insurance panels and at the conclusion of the 6 covered sessions, if continued services are desired, the Health Information Specialist will assist to determine eligibility and fees. The counselor’s goal is to build upon the student’s current skill sets for positive behavioral change. Services are provided by licensed counselors and a psychiatrist.
