MEDICAL SCHOOL IS AN EXCITING AND TRANSFORMATIVE TIME…

But it also often comes with a variety of challenges and concerns for many students. Stress, anxiety, and a range of other emotions are normal reactions to a demanding Medical School program. Sometimes, these emotions become difficult to deal with alone, and it is often helpful to talk to someone or to reach out and ask for help.

Student counseling provides the opportunity for students to benefit from working on personal issues with an experienced professional.

The counseling relationship is objective, non-judgmental, and understanding. Counseling sessions are confidential and University of Miami Miller School of Medicine students are afforded the opportunity to express their emotions in an uninhibited environment.

The program is staffed by a licensed mental health professional.

Services Offered

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling focuses on the exploration and resolution of the student’s personal problems or issues according to his/her needs.

Couples Counseling

Counseling the parties of a relationship (couples, family members, and friends) to help them better manage troublesome differences.

(FAQ’s) Frequently asked questions about the Student Counseling Center

How many times can I visit?

All University of Miami Millers School of Medicine students attending the Regional Medical Campus are eligible for up to 5 sessions of combined counseling and psychiatric services. Psychiatric services are provided though UM and to set up this service please call the UM Direct Triage line @ 305-243-2774.

Cost of Service?

There is no cost to the student for the 5 sessions.

How about confidentiality?

All sessions conducted at Henderson Student Counseling Services are confidential and we cannot reveal what has been discussed without your permission to anyone outside of our office. In the event there is cause for concern that a student may do harm to self or others the staff is legally bound to intervene.
