Henderson Behavioral Health Receives Grant from BJ’s Charitable Foundation to Support Residents of Henderson Village
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (September 19, 2011) – Henderson Behavioral Health (HBH), South Florida’s oldest and largest not-for-profit behavioral healthcare system, was awarded a $ 4,500 grant from BJ’s Charitable Foundation to support the purchase of clothing and footwear for residents at the Lauderhill Residential facility.
This generous funding is planned as three “shopping sprees” where resident ‘captains’ along with Residential staff, each spend $1,500 for shoes and sandals, undergarments, and pajamas. The first team went shopping on September 13th and filled three shopping carts with supplies and then celebrated their hard work at a luncheon provided by Adult Residential Administrator, Ms. Debbie Perry. Ms. Perry said, “Our clients and staff truly had an enjoyable day and all the residents were very appreciative of this opportunity. We are looking forward to the other two shopping excursions in the coming months and want to give a big thank you to BJ’s Charitable Foundation.”
Henderson Village provides residential treatment to formerly homeless persons and includes: 35 low-demand shelter beds; onsite psychiatric and nursing services; and, onsite and community-based case management.
“This funding is so important and fills a gap for needed essentials, not otherwise funded,” stated Henderson Behavioral Health CEO, Dr. Steven Ronik. “Our residents are mostly on fixed and limited incomes, so this support is essential for supplying basic necessities that help promote dignity in each recipient. We truly appreciate the support of such responsible corporate partners as BJ’s Charitable Foundation.”
“With so many people still struggling in the current economy, it’s more important than ever that BJ’s supports the communities surrounding our clubs,” said Tricia Maddrey Baker, Community Relations Specialist at BJ’s Wholesale Club. “We are proud to support the Safe Haven Homeless shelter as they provide vital human services to those in our community.”
BJ’s Charitable Foundation was established with the mission to enrich every community BJ’s Wholesale Clubs serve. The Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that primarily benefit the underprivileged in the area of basic needs (hunger prevention, self-sufficiency, education and health). Since 2005, the Foundation has donated over $10 million to over 1,000 community organizations in the 15 states where BJ’s Clubs are located.
