Henderson Behavioral Health (Henderson) has been selected to participate in a $100,000 Challenge Grant from the Salah Foundation for its Early Identification/First Episode Psychosis Program.
Henderson is the oldest and largest, not-for-profit behavioral healthcare system in Broward County, Florida. For over 60 years, Henderson has established itself as a leader in providing quality behavioral healthcare services to individuals, families, adults, and children. In 2013-2014, over 30,000 individuals were served with 6,000 of those under the age of 18.
“We are pleased to match all donations up to $100,000 received by Henderson through the end of the year in support of their Early Identification Project,” said George Taylor, Brinkley Morgan attorney and Salah Foundation Board Member. “We believe that young adults should have the opportunity to live as normal a life as possible and with Henderson’s help, they will have that opportunity,” said Taylor.>
“We are extremely grateful to the Salah Foundation for granting us the ability to leverage donations from supporters and donors and educate our community about our Early Identification Project/First Episode Psychosis Program for young people and adults experiencing their first psychotic episode, which if untreated, can lead to more serious consequences,” said Dr. Steven Ronik, Henderson CEO.
Approximately 33,000 Americans take their lives each year, including 5,000 under the age of 25 and approximately 3% of the population will experience a psychotic episode at some stage in their life. Early identification and treatment is vital in order to reduce the trauma from subsequent episodes. “With the Salah Foundation’s generous support and partnership, Henderson will continue to address a critical unmet need for young adults in our community,” said Ronik.
